NTR district collector Dr G. Lakshmisha on Saturday described the provision of free eye care services to poor and needy people as a valuable humanitarian service and appreciated efforts aimed at restoring vision to those unable to afford treatment. The collector was speaking after unveiling the poster for a free eye screening and surgery camp to be organised at Sankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital in Vijayawada. The camp is being conducted under the guidance of Dr Madhav and Dr Aparna in association with Sankara Nethralaya, MESU (Mobile Eye Surgical Unit), Hyderabad, and the Indian Red Cross Society. Dr Lakshmisha appreciated the organisers for undertaking an initiative that would benefit a large number of people. He also commended Dr Madhav, Dr Aparna and Srujana Paluri, who are settled in the United States, for contributing to healthcare services in their native region. According to the organisers, eye screening will be conducted from June 15 to June 21, while eligible patients will undergo free eye surgeries from June 18 to June 22.
